Since 2009, I Am A Queen, a youth mentoring program, has hosted the Ultimate Christmas Adoption Program to support children and their families during the holiday season. The program is a 10-week initiative that allows families to sign up in the month of October and to undergo a review process to be selected. Each child’s wish list is posted on the organization’s website for donors to select for adoption. In addition, each family will receive a holiday food box that contains a frozen turkey and non-perishable sides.
Annually, I Am A Queen has partnered with the DoubleTree Hotel in Greensboro, N.C. for 11 years as a sponsor to house the Ultimate Christmas Adoption Program. The hotel partnership is an opportunity for donors to drop off unwrapped gifts or additional toys for the families in need on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
In addition, for four years, I Am A Queen has adopted senior citizens for Christmas by providing Christmas gifts and food. This year, I Am A Queen partnered with Harmony at Greensboro to host an ornament decorating party with the residents and the youth in the program. Each resident will receive a Christmas gift from the organization.
Since its inception, the program has helped 924 children and 350 senior citizens.
“The reason why we call our initiative the Ultimate Christmas Adoption Program is because of the level of love we show during the holiday season to the families and senior citizens through the gifts, food, and our appreciation to our donors,” said Alana V. Allen, founder and executive director of I Am A Queen. “This program is an experience for the Greensboro-High Point, N.C. community and a way for us to spread joy for Christmas.”
